Continuing to raise awareness & funds in memory of Dave Beale

After living with prostate cancer for four years, Dave passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on 24th October 2023. We had managed a lovely holiday at our house in Spain together with our families at the end of August, which he loved, and he went into the wonderful Priory Hospital on our return for 10 days during which time they stabilised him sufficiently to come home for his final weeks. The cancer had spread to his liver earlier this year and despite the very best efforts of the team at The Priory, it proved resistant to all the various treatment options available. We were fortunate enough to be able to have a lovely live-in carer, and for Dave to spend time with our amazingly supportive family and friends in his last weeks, watching Aston Villa beat West Ham 4:1 on the Sunday before he passed with his sons.

Throughout his last 4 years since his diagnosis, Dave fought to live a normal life and wouldn’t be defined by his illness, leaving that battle to the doctors. He took chemotherapy, radiotherapy, emergency operations and even the horrific spider bite in Florida in his stride with his usual stoicism. We travelled the world together and he survived Covid, moved Wyndon Motors to new premises, took over and ran XK Engineering all since his diagnosis, absolutely determined to enjoy however long he had left and he did it all in his usual good-humoured style. We are so proud of him as a family and will miss him so much.

Dave’s only regret was not taking his early symptoms seriously and not getting regularly checked. His final message to all of his friends and colleagues is “Get checked now!” That is why he chose Prostate Cancer UK as his charity of choice for donations and I know that he would want me to continue to raise funds in his memory to help with finding a cure for this horrible disease.

Its for that reason that I am keeping this tribute page open as I want to build a legacy fund that truly reflects the man he was and allows all of us who miss him so much in our lives to do something positive in his memory.

Please continue to give generously and keep getting checked!
